While fall in Jackson can be somewhat unpredictable and tempermental, it is still one of my 4 favorite seasons in this part of the country. The changing colors of Aspen and cottonwoods on mountainous hillsides, the heightened activity of the animals, and the absence of tourists make it the ideal time of year. that being said, most of the leaves have already fallen from the trees and imports and foreigners to this valley might consider the weather we see in November as winter. But the 45 degrees and sunny days that break up the snowy days let any wyomingite know that its still fall at least for another week.
Many people are curious as to how a triathlete can train in and withstand Jackson's long winters and question why I hang around. My short answer is that the three months of absolute beautiful scenery and training weather make up for the long hours spent inside on the trainer and treadmill in the winter months. My extended answer would include a list of things other than the scenery: the incredible people of the community, cheap rent and food living at home while I pay off student loans, close proximity to my coach, etc. Sometimes, I wish I were in warmer weather, riding my bike outside, living on my own or with a group of young triathletes. Eventually, I will have to leave this valley for more ideal training situations, but for now I get to enjoy the colorful leaves of fall and waking up to crisp fall mornings with a layer of freshly fallen snow.
109 days until the first race of the 2014 season, no weather stops me, I am getting after it!
